France is renowned for centuries of forestry, craftsmanship and material excellence. For Vernay, choosing France was never simply about sourcing oak—it was about choosing a country whose history, culture and respect for timber align with the standards we believe architecture deserves.
Why Burgundy?
Burgundy is one of Europe’s most respected oak-growing regions. Its unique combination of climate, soil and elevation produces slow-grown French oak with exceptional density, stability and character. These forests have been carefully managed for generations, creating timber prized for its consistent grain, colour and performance.
Why Single Origin?
Every Vernay board originates from a single region in Burgundy. By working with one source, one supply chain and one standard, we deliver a level of consistency that architects and designers can specify with confidence. Flooring, stair treads, joinery, beams and wall linings all share the same natural character, allowing complete architectural cohesion across a project.
Why We Refused Mixed-Source Timber
Many timber products combine material from multiple forests, regions or even countries. While this approach may increase supply, it often results in variations in colour, grain, density and performance.
Vernay deliberately chose a different path. We believe provenance should never be compromised. By sourcing exclusively from one region, we preserve the integrity of the material and provide complete traceability from forest to finished board.
We chose France.
We chose Burgundy.
We chose single origin.
Because provenance is not simply part of our story—it is the foundation of everything we do.
At Vernay, every project begins with a conversation.
We work alongside architects, interior designers, builders and joiners from the earliest stages of specification, providing the technical knowledge, material expertise and product consistency needed to bring exceptional spaces to life.
Whether designing a private residence, a boutique hospitality venue or a large commercial development, our role is to simplify the specification process—not simply supply timber.
From product selection and samples to technical documentation and finishing advice, we support every stage of the journey, helping transform design intent into enduring architectural outcomes.
Because our success is measured not by the volume of timber we sell, but by the quality of the projects we help create.
