PARQUET

BEYOND THE FLOOR

A familiar flooring language is reinterpreted as architecture, turning the wall behind the bed into a crafted oak surface.

Project Overview

This bedroom uses French oak parquet in an unexpected way – taking the rhythm and craftsmanship normally associated with a parquet floor and carrying it vertically across the wall.

The rustic oak selection brings knots, tonal movement and natural grain into the chevron geometry. Against soft neutral bedding and restrained furnishings, the timber becomes the defining architectural element without overwhelming the room.

Design Response

The chevron pattern creates strong vertical movement behind the bed while the repeated V-form gives the wall structure and proportion. Rather than relying on applied decoration, the material itself provides the detail.

Natural variation between individual pieces prevents the pattern from feeling too uniform. The result sits between precision and character – a tailored parquet installation that still reads unmistakably as real oak.

Detailing & Construction

Chevron geometry – repeated angled boards form a clean, continuous V-pattern across the wall.

Rustic character – variation in grain, tone and natural markings gives each piece individuality and keeps the installation from appearing manufactured or flat.

Full-height treatment – taking the parquet to the ceiling gives the material architectural presence rather than treating it as a conventional bedhead.

Performance & Outcome

The wall becomes both finish and feature. The geometry introduces order, while the natural oak brings warmth and tactility to the bedroom.

The restrained palette around it allows the variation in the timber to remain visible, making the oak the focus of the room.
