SOLID FRENCH OAK CONFERENCE TABLE

ONE MATERIAL. ONE ARCHITECTURAL LANGUAGE.

Project Overview

Designed as the focal point of a generous boardroom, this four-metre solid French Oak conference table demonstrates the scale possible with Vernay’s long-length and wide-section French Oak. Three substantial solid oak planks form the tabletop, creating a calm, continuous surface with the material presence required for a commercial interior.

The table was designed as a one-piece solid oak composition using long-length French oak planks and beam legs, allowing the top to read as a calm, continuous surface with a restrained architectural form.

Designing a Solid French Oak Boardroom Table

The top is formed from three 420 × 32 mm solid French oak planks running the full 3.6 m length, finished with breadboard ends in matching oak to bring the overall length to just over 4 m. The legs are crafted from 100 × 100 mm French oak beams in a simple trestle-style frame with a stretcher – providing mass and stability while keeping the detailing deliberately minimal.

Detailing & Construction

Long-length supply – 3.6 m planks minimise joints and maintain an uninterrupted grain across the surface.

Breadboard ends – a traditional solid-timber detail that accommodates movement while providing a refined visual edge.

Beam legs – 100 × 100 mm sections give grounded presence and excellent stability.

Hard wax oil finish – durable, repairable and designed to retain the tactile feel of real timber over time.

Performance & Outcome

Seating for 12 on a single shared surface.

Exceptional stability from the solid 32 mm top and beam base.

A tactile centrepiece that reinforces the quality and permanence of natural materials.

Spot-repairable and re-oilable in place as the timber develops its patina.

By combining long planks, breadboard ends and solid beam legs, the table becomes both a signature element in the room and a working showcase of Vernay’s architectural French oak section
