For this coastal residence, the brief called for a solid French Oak staircase that felt grounded and natural within a clean, minimalist interior.
Solid French oak was selected for both the treads and risers, with a rustic grade chosen specifically to retain knots, tonal shifts and individual grain patterns.
The timber brings warmth and character to the crisp white plastered walls, transforming a simple straight run into a strong architectural feature.
Design Response
Matching solid oak across both the horizontal treads and vertical risers creates a continuous ribbon of timber through the stairwell. The result reads as one material element rather than a series of separate components.
Natural variation is deliberately visible. Against the smooth surrounding walls, the grain and knots provide texture and authenticity without adding decorative complexity.
