The floor creates continuity through the architecture – warm enough to soften the concrete, yet natural and restrained enough to allow the landscape and material palette to remain the focus.
Project Overview
This interior uses natural materials with restraint: exposed concrete, expansive glazing, warm timber joinery and dense subtropical planting. The flooring needed to connect these elements without competing with them, while carrying a consistent material language through the open living spaces.
Vernay 220 × 20 mm solid French oak boards provide that foundation. Their generous width gives the floor a calm architectural scale, while the natural grain and tonal movement of the oak bring softness to the harder concrete surfaces.
Finish Response
The boards are finished in Naturelle – a warm, understated treatment that preserves the recognisable character of French oak rather than masking it. In changing natural light, the floor moves between soft blonde and warmer oak tones, creating depth without introducing a strong colour statement.
The result is a floor that works across kitchen, living and circulation spaces as a continuous architectural surface.
